Road of Wine and flavors (Strada del vino e dei sapori Colli di Maremma)
One of the best aspects of traveling in Tuscany is the culinary one: the delicious flavors of the region with the various local nuances and the genuine traditional recipes are an integral part of the Tuscan charm. Just like for Chianti, the name given to a certain wine production area, also for Maremma the name indicates an area not delimited by provincial, municipal or regional borders, but by a past rich in traditions and culture. The “Road of Wine and Flavors” (the traditional itinerary of wine and typical products) of the Maremma is divided into three distinct geographical areas: Monteregio di Massa Marittima, Montecucco and Sapori d’Amiata and the Maremma hills. When we refer to the wines of the Maremma Hills, we indicate an area that includes 13 municipalities: Campagnatico, Capalbio, Grosseto, Isola del Giglio, Magliano in Toscana, Manciano, Monte Argentario, Orbetello, Pitigliano, Roccalbegna, Scansano and Semproniano. Along this itinerary you will find D.O.C.G. (Morellino di Scansano) and D.O.C. (Ansonica dell’Argentario, Bianco di Pitigliano, Capalbio, Parrina and Sovana). The protagonists of local food and wine are the wines: Ansonica Costa dell’Argentario DOC, Bianco di Pitigliano DOC, Capalbio DOC, Morellino di Scansano DOC and DOCG, Parrina DOC, Sovana DOC, IGT Maremma Toscana Bianco and Rosso. Also noteworthy are other typical products such as Tuscan IGP Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Pecorino Toscano DOP, Honey, in particular marruca, chestnut, acacia and wildflower, Saffron from Maremma, Savory Biscuit from Roccalbegna, Bottarga and other fish products from the Orbetello Lagoon, Maremmana, Palamita from Isola del Giglio and Panficato from Isola del Giglio.
