Gustatus

It all began back in 2006, when the local entrepreneurs of the Welcome Maremma consortium in collaboration with the Municipality of Orbetello decided to create something that went beyond the classic summer season.

Gustatus is an event able to tell the history and the food and wine culture of a territory that is rich in genuine table traditions and capable of expressing sea and land excellence, from the lagoon to the hills, where healthy food and wine , this to be tasted in the now must-have glass of the event, meet each other to make themselves known at home. The “zero km” is not the exception but a lifestyle, a way of life, not only Tuscan, but proudly Maremma. Many local producers of wine, oil, milk, meat, cured meats, honey, jams, spices, legumes and of course fish accepted a difficult challenge many years ago for a territory accustomed to doing for itself. The center of Orbetello is transformed into a festival of flavors, where shows, historical re-enactments, educational workshops, congresses and guided tastings make the Ponte dei Santi, at the turn of November 1st, a party never experienced before. There is also a wine shop, where selections of local cold cuts and cheeses are accompanied by first courses and “ciaccini”.

And if there is a queue, no problem, in fact there are dozens of affiliated restaurants throughout the municipality, as well as a special square dedicated to local restaurants, therefore valid alternatives are guaranteed, both in terms of price and under that. of flavors at the table. It is certainly no mystery, in fact, that Gustatus is an excellent opportunity to move on foot, in complete freedom, in the city center, pedestrianized even more for the occasion. Among traveling orchestras, arts and ancient crafts to be admired without filters, exhibitions such as the exhibition of the tools used for fishing in the lagoon, and even the historical re-enactments and the curious boat trips in the Ponente lagoon, in each edition the cultural proposals have found confirmations, news, transformations

Following the success of the first edition, even if a little unexpected, already in 2007 Gustatus found the interest of Slow Food through the setting up of the Biodiversity Square: it is difficult to imagine a better recognition for a young event, able to present itself in an even more new with the setting up of the Via degli Artisti and where the participating producers grow significantly. Interest in the event increases and in the following editions the splendid setting of Orbetello becomes the best possible scenario for the presentation of the Ferrari California (in 2008), with the Maranello house returning the following year to unveil the new Ferrari 458. Italy, accompanied by an exceptional testimonial like Jean Alesi. ACI also sniffs the opportunity to organize meetings on driving safety and road education. In just four editions, tens of thousands of people, accompanied by their own Gustatus glasses, visit or return to Orbetello in an unprecedented way: more interesting, more festive, more delicious. In 2010 the craftsmen of Buonvisi di Lucca bring the Chocolate Art to the lagoon, while in 2011 the Short Supply Chain Market appears, from producer to consumer. The Gustatus showcase has grown in value and since 2012 Emergency has also joined the event on a permanent basis, promoting and finding fertile ground for a fundraising project for a hospital in Sierra Leone. The following year, however, it is a special edition, not for particular culinary reasons but because it comes after the flood of 12 November 2012 that swept the village of Albinia. The event confirms its classic moments, but to these are added photographic exhibitions and video stories to remember those long moments of fear, with the arrival of Gustatus, expected as a moment of celebration to restart and find normality. In the wake of the formula that has been consolidated in recent years, in the 2014 edition the success of Gustatus was strengthened with the exquisitely lagoon novelty of Piazza del Pesce, set up not by chance in that treasure that is the Spanish square adjacent to the cooperative’s premises. of the Fishermen. Thus we arrive at 2020 where, due to the Covid-19 emergency, it is decided for a digital edition that had the ambition of telling itself to international markets, ensuring that the great work done for the communication and revisiting of Gustatus did not even stop. this year, continuing to tell our land even in complex times like these. Over the years Gustatus has become an increasingly large event but continues to keep its origins intact.
